The animation shows what the eclipse approximately looks like in Rantepao. Stages and times of the eclipse are outlined below. All times are local time (WITA) for Rantepao.

5:12 am Sun, Feb 21
Penumbral Eclipse begins The Earth's penumbra start touching the Moon's face.Map direction West-northwest 281°
6:04 am Sun, Feb 21
Maximum in Rantepao This is the moment when the eclipse reaches its greatest magnitude while the entire Moon is above the horizon in Rantepao. The true maximum point of this eclipse cannot be seen in Rantepao because the Moon is below the horizon at that time.
Since the Moon is near the horizon at this time, we recommend going to a high point or finding an unobstructed area with free sight to West for the best view of the eclipse.
Map direction West 280°
6:07 am Sun, Feb 21SettingMoonset Setting, but the combination of a very low moon and the total eclipse phase makes the Moon so dim before it sets, that it might disappear from view some time before it sets.Map direction West 280°
7:12 am Sun, Feb 21Not directly visibleMaximum Eclipse Below horizonMap direction West 279°
9:13 am Sun, Feb 21Not directly visiblePenumbral Eclipse ends Below horizonMap direction West 280°

The curvature of the shadow's path and the apparent rotation of the Moon's disk is due to the Earth's rotation.

During this penumbral lunar eclipse, the Earth's main shadow does not cover the Moon. As the Earth's shadow (umbra) misses the Moon during a penumbral lunar eclipse, there are no other locations on Earth where the Moon appears partially or totally eclipsed during this event. A penumbral lunar eclipse can be a bit hard to see as the shadowed part is only a little bit fainter than the rest of the Moon.
