Country or State Overview
The Country Pages provide an overview of current local times and time zones in the
selected country. For some countries, we also offer separate pages for each state.
From here, you can access nearly all of the information we provide about that country or state in services all
across timeanddate.com.
For more detailed information about a location, click on any of the cities listed on the Country Page or State Page.
This will take you to the City Page.

What Does the Country/State Page Show?
Current local time
For countries or states where all or most areas follow the same local time, an analog clock appears near the
top of the page showing the current time. For countries with multiple time
zones, such as the United States, the current local times in each
time zone are displayed below the time zone map further down the page. For states with more than one time
zone, such as Kentucky, they appear in the list of locations in the
center of the page.
If you are unsure of the time zone for a location, enter its name into the search field. This will take you
to the location's City Page, which includes the current local time
and information about its time zone.
Change country/state
Use the search field to access information about a different country, state, or city.
Problems? See “The search lists several places with the same name. Which is the one I'm
looking for?” in the FAQ section below.
Weather, Time Zone, DST, and Sun & Moon tabs
Use the navigation tabs next to the search field to access the General Country or
State Page (Time/General tab) or the sub-pages dedicated to specific topics, such
as Weather, Time Zone, and Sun & Moon for the
country.
Time Zone Map
On the country pages, the time zone map below the search field and tabs shows the time
zones the country currently observes and the local times in each time zone. This map takes into
account all Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes in real-time, meaning that it
always shows the current situation and changes its appearance when there is a DST clock change. Click on a
location in or below the map to receive more detailed information.

List of cities
On the country and state pages, we list some of the most important cities in the selected country, showing
the current local time for each. Click on a city for more detailed information.
List of the country's dependencies
For countries with dependent territories, a list showing all dependencies appears below the list of cities.
In most cases, each dependency has its own Country Page, which you can access by clicking on the
territory's name in the list.
Tools & Converters
Click on the links below Tools & Converters to use the capital city of the selected
country or state as a starting point for different kinds of calculations:
- The Meeting Planner provides a color-coded overview of the best
times to have a meeting with participants in the city and in other time zones.
- The Time Zone Converter shows local times around the world
that correspond to the local time in the city.
- The Event Time Announcer allows you to calculate and share
world times for an event happening in this city.
- The Time Difference Calculator shows time differences between
this and other cities worldwide.
- The Distance Calculator computes the air distance from this
city to a location of your choice.
- The Free Clock service gives you an HTML code for a clock showing the
local time in the city, which you can embed in your website or blog.
Note: For countries or states with multiple time zones,
the local time in the capital may differ from the local time in the location for which you wish to make a
calculation. If that is the case, please make sure to select the correct location after following one of
the links mentioned above.
Calendar & Holidays
This section is dedicated to holidays and calendars for
the selected country or state. Click on the Create calendar... link to see a calendar for

bottom of the page.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is the current time not shown?
For countries or states with multiple time zones, Multiple Time
Zones is displayed instead of the current local time near the top of the page. However, the
current time in each time zone is displayed below the time zone map a little further down, as well as in
the list of locations below the map.
How accurate are the clocks?
Displaying the correct time for locations around the world is our core business, so we make sure to deliver
clocks you can rely on. We use the Network Time Protocol (NTP) to synchronize our servers to a number of
time servers operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as well as other similar
institutions. This means the time we send to your browser is extremely accurate.
However, there are some factors we cannot control that may cause the time displayed on your screen to be
very slightly off. For example, this may be the case if the time signal we transmit is somehow delayed on
its way from our servers to your browser. We have a simple but effective mechanism in place to synchronize
the client time (the time shown on your screen) to our server time. However, if you are on a very slow
internet connection, this synchronization process may be slightly inaccurate. In most cases, this
inaccuracy should amount to less than 1 second. If you think the time is slightly off, please refresh the
page in your browser.
Where did the full-screen clock and the pop-up window go?
Both options are still available for countries or states with a single time zone and for all cities and
locations in our database. To access them, first click on the analog clock in the top-left corner.
To view the time in full-screen mode, click on Fullscreen in the top-right corner; to open
a pop-up window showing the time, click on Popup Window in the top-right corner. Click on
Exit to return to the standard city page display.
Why does it show the wrong time or time zone?
Although mistakes can of course always happen, the time we display for each country or state is most
probably correct. Before sending in your error
report, please consider the following:
- Many countries and territories regularly change their clocks as Daylight Saving
Time (DST) starts and ends. Perhaps there has been a clock change recently that you were not
aware of? To check, please click on the DST Changes tab.
- Are you looking at the United Kingdom or Ireland?
If so, please note that neither the UK nor Ireland observe GMT
while DST is active, so clocks there are 1 hour ahead of GMT during that
period.
- If the time seems to be off by a smaller amount, up to 1 or 2 minutes, you may be looking at an
outdated version of the page. Please try reloading the page to see if that solves the problem.
If all this does not help, please let us
know.
The time has the wrong format. How do I change between the 24-hour and AM/PM clock?
We support both 24-hour and 12-hour (am/pm) clock formats. To change the
format, please go to My Units and make a selection in the Time
Format drop-down.
Why doesn't my town appear in the map or list?
To provide a clean, uncluttered overview, we list only a small selection of the millions of locations in our
database on the Country and State Pages.
Why isn't my town included?
Our database of locations includes thousands of cities worldwide, and we now offer an additional 6 million
places via the GeoNames database. If you still don't find your
town, please let us know, and we will
consider adding it.
The search lists several places with the same name. Which is the one I'm looking for?
When you type the location into the search field and it suggests several places by the same name, first have
a look at the country flag and the description in parentheses to identify the city you are looking for. If
it is still unclear, click on one of the locations and check the geographical position on the map or via
the longitude/latitude information.
