Why Is Today’s Half Moon Special?

We often refer to a Quarter Moon as a Half Moon, and say it is 50% illuminated. But this is not completely true.

The Third Quarter Moon on December 5 will be 50.137% lit up—the most illuminated Quarter Moon of the year.

Advent Calendar 2023

It’s finally December, but it can feel like the holidays are out of reach. At timeanddate.com, we thought we’d help shorten the wait until Christmas.

Perfect Nights for the Geminids

The Geminid Meteor Shower 2023 is one of the major meteor showers of the year, with up to 150 meteors per hour.

This year, the shower peaks just after a New Moon, making the skies perfectly dark for a shooting-star show.
